OVERVIEW:Reporting to the Managing Director, Grads of Life (the thought leadership and consulting arm of Year Up), the Partner of Thought Leadership will develop and lead the strategy for Grads of Life and Year Up's thought leadership and influence in the skills-first and workforce development fields. This position is responsible for shaping Grads of Life's role and contribution to the skills-first movement, in close coordination and partnership with other leading organizations and companies in the space. This key leader will also build a Year Up-wide strategy for positioning Year Up as a key thought leader in the broader field through content development, key events and partnerships. Successful outcomes in this role include the development of a clear vision and strategy for Year Up's thought leadership, including Grads of Life's role, aligned internal leadership to support the vision, the development of compelling content, and the expansion of key strategic partnerships that advance organizational mission and impact.To be successful in this role, you will bring leadership experience in external relations, such as strategic partnerships, corporate engagement or client work. You will be a key subject matter expert on issues related to the opportunity divide, with particular expertise in skills-based talent practices and the workforce development field more broadly. You will be comfortable working with a range of partners, including nonprofits, funders, and employers, and be able to flexibly respond to their needs and inquiries, adapting deliverables as necessary. You will have strong project management and presentation skills and will have a persuasive communication style that inspires confidence and brings team members along in your approach. You will be a great team leader and coach who invests in developing people and brings in additional resources as needed to execute on the mission.The Partner of Thought Leadership will also interact with students as a professional skills coach, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in creating and sustaining a positive environment, with trust among students, faculty, and staff.We are open to candidates living in any of the states in which Year Up operates: https://www.yearup.org/locations.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Thought Leadership Strategy Development & Execution * Set the strategy for Grads of Life's continued role in the skills-first talent movement, including the development of new IP and influence on the broader employer community * Oversee growth and evolution of impact measurement IP and body of work * Build and steward a comprehensive thought leadership strategy for Year Up that defines key areas of expertise, goals, content development approach and executive positioning/engagement plan * Work closely with executive colleagues across the organization to market and bring visibility to thought leadership strategy and relevant strategic projectsStrategic Partnerships * Lead strategy development and execution for Grads of Life's partnerships with other organizations in the skills-first movement * Cultivate and manage high profile relationships that advance organizational mission and impact * Represent YU/Grads of Life voice in key events and gatherings of relevance to mission Content Development and Editorial Oversight * Lead development of a content strategy and annual pipeline aligned to the thought leadership vision, including research projects, case studies, op-eds and blogs * Support and direct a team of internal leaders and external consultants to deliver on the content pipeline * Coordinate closely with YU Marketing to ensure aligned promotional plan for content Fundraising * Build and expand roadmap for philanthropically funded opportunities that advance Grads of Life mission * Collaborate with partners across Year Up to source, cultivate and grow philanthropic support for Year Up's thought leadership work and strategic projects * Serve as key GOL steward of institutional and corporate donors Team Management * Directly supervise at least two individuals on the thought leadership team, including supporting day-to-day priorities, career development and team cohesion * Lead hiring of additional team members, interns, and contractors as neededQUALIFICATIONS: * 10-15+ years' experience in external relations, communications, and/or strategic partnerships * Superior strategic thinking skills with content development expertise * Experience managing teams * Creative and problem-solving mindset * Excellent teamwork skills * Excellent organizational and project management abilities in a fast-changing and high paced environment * Public speaking skills/comfort a plus * Experience in fundraising a plus * A passion for working with young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up * Commitment to diversity and inclusion * Understanding of the Opportunity Divide and its driversSalary Range: $190,000 - $225,000 #LI-HybridCOMPENSATION & BENEFITS: * Year Up has established salary ranges for each of our sites, which allows us to pay employees competitively, equitably and consistently in different geographic markets. For roles in which the location is listed as flexible, the range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Salary offers take into account a candidate's skills, experience, and location.
